Life at ID Comms: Mark Andrews, Digital Lead

ID Comms month-long paternity leave allowed me adjust to the joys and challenges of becoming a new parent.

This past summer, my wife and I welcomed Alfie into the world. Like any new parent our hearts were filled with love and happiness, whilst also being nervous to suddenly be given the responsibility of keeping this tiny human alive. After a short stay in the hospital and a final few checks we were off to start this new adventure as a family.

This is where I'm truly thankful for one of the perks at ID Comms. I was entitled to one month off work to settle into my new role as a father. When I tell everyone I get the same response, "That's amazing, you're so lucky." And it truly was.

In the first month alone I witnessed a real change in Alfie, he became more alert and inquisitive with each day and getting to experience that for a month without being pulled away for work was a real blessing. I got to learn his quirks and needs which centered around the usual (feed me, clean me, cuddle me). It also gave me lots of time to support Heather (my wife), doing jobs around the house and giving her a break to rest and recover when I could.

What this time off also meant is that we had time to get out there, seeing family and friends as well as letting Alfie have a few first experiences including his first trip to the beach (whilst always being in the shade I must add).

I've cherished every moment so far (ok maybe not the crying at 3am) but it has been amazing to spend so much time with Alfie and my wife and I'm very thankful for being at a company that gave me this opportunity.
